The Patch Hardwood Tour examines boys high school basketball on a weekly rotational basis, focusing on teams in a 12-town region. Its intent is to celebrate and inform about prep hoops. The tour will will be stopping in your town soon. The author, Dave Masterson, has been a fan of high school basketball for more than four decades and is a veteran reporter and commentator of the prep sports scene. Towns on the Patch Hardwood Tour are Algonquin, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary, Crystal Lake, Grayslake, Huntley, Lake Forest, Lake in the Hills, Lake Zurich, Libertyville and Palatine.

Latest Award announced 10/25/10

News-Sun garners 10 NINA awards

Lake County News-Sun staffers won 10 awards in the annual Northern Illinois Newspaper Association editorial contest.

Editor-in-Chief Chris Cashman led the award winners with first, second and third place awards. Photographer Ryan Pagelow won two first-place awards.

In sports, Dave Masterson won a third place for his feature story on boxing. First place went to the Arlington Heights Daily Herald; second place to The Beacon-News of Aurora.

The News-Sun competed in the daily category in the annual contest for newspapers in the northern part of Illinois. Awards were announced at the annual NINA journalism conference at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb.
